Through a work sponsored event, I was given the opportunity to attend and hear Steve’s story of his journey from a traumatic accident, the lows it can bring and the challenges presented which were overcome. Steve as a life coach with his testimony could help individuals relate, identify, and deal with personal trauma/stress, recognise workplace challenges while highlighting the need to follow Health & Safety procedures.

I had the pleasure of hearing Steve's story today at a work safety stand down and it is an sad and moving experience. Like Steve I have had a few moments in life having served in the army but luckily for me I had some great mates and we always helped manage each others problems. That's not to say we didn't have some tragedies. If you every get the opportunity to see or listen to his story I am sure you will take something away from experience. I wish you (Steve) well in your journey and keep up changing hearts and minds.

Steven Kirby delivering a workplace safety and mental wellbeing talk

A story people remember

Safety becomes personal when people understand the consequences

I spent twenty years working in construction. During a hydrostatic pressure test, one choice put me in the line of fire when a pipe failed under pressure.

I survived, but the accident affected far more than my physical health. PTSD, anxiety and depression followed. My recovery changed how I understand risk, workplace culture and the importance of speaking honestly about mental wellbeing.

Today, I share that lived experience with site teams, leaders and conference audiences across the UK and Europe. The message is direct, relatable and designed to stay with people long after the event.

Speak Up and Report
