About Steven Kirby

I am Steven Kirby, a workplace safety and mental wellbeing speaker based in Beverley, East Yorkshire. I speak to organisations across the UK and Europe through SKLifeCoachUK, using my experience of construction work, a near fatal workplace accident and recovery to make safety personal.

Twenty years on construction sites

Before becoming a speaker and coach, I spent twenty years working in construction, progressing from groundworker and digger driver to site supervisor. I understand the pressure to get a job finished and the reassurance we give ourselves when something does not feel right.

In 2011, I survived a serious workplace accident during a hydrostatic pressure test. Physical recovery was only part of the journey. I was later diagnosed with PTSD and experienced anxiety and depression. The impact reached beyond work into my confidence, identity and family life.

One Choice, One Life

My keynote, One Choice, One Life: The Importance of Safety and Mental Wellbeing, brings those experiences into a conversation about the choices we make every day. It explores shortcuts, time pressure, confidence versus competence, communication and reporting concerns.

I encourage audiences to stop and reassess risk, ask questions when unsure and look out for one another. I also speak openly about the mental impact of an incident and why asking for support matters.

Coaching and ongoing support

Alongside speaking, I offer individual life coaching and corporate wellbeing support. I am a certified life coach, trained in hypnotherapy and NLP, and have studied CBT. My approach draws on that learning and my own recovery.

Where do you deliver talks?

I am based in Beverley, East Yorkshire, and travel to speaking engagements across the UK and Europe. Ireland is one of the countries where I deliver talks; it is part of my wider service area.

What makes your talk personal?

I speak from twenty years of construction experience and my own accident and recovery. The talk connects workplace decisions with the effects on real people, colleagues and families.
