Inspiring Safer Workplaces Through Lived Experience

Founded by Steven Kirby.

Some of the most powerful safety messages don’t come from statistics or policies. They come from real experiences that stay with people long after the presentation has ended.

After surviving a life-changing workplace accident, I made it my mission to help organisations strengthen their safety culture, improve mental wellbeing and encourage conversations that can genuinely save lives.

Today, I speak to organisations across Yorkshire, the UK and Europe, sharing my story with honesty and purpose. Every presentation is designed to encourage people to think differently about safety, responsibility and the impact their decisions have on themselves and those around them.

More Than A Speaker

My story isn’t about the accident itself it’s about everything that came afterwards. The physical recovery was only one part of the journey. Rebuilding confidence, managing my mental health and finding a new direction in life proved just as challenging. Those experiences shape every presentation I deliver.

As an experienced mental health speaker, I help organisations understand that workplace safety isn’t only about procedures. It’s about people, behaviours and creating a culture where everyone feels supported and valued.

Rather than simply sharing my experiences, I encourage audiences to reflect on their own workplace and leave with practical lessons they can put into practice.

Helping Organisations Make Safety Personal

People rarely remember another list of statistics, they remember stories. As a workplace safety speaker, I use my own experiences to bring safety conversations to life, helping audiences understand the lasting impact a workplace incident can have on individuals, families, colleagues and businesses.

Whether I’m speaking at a conference, a safety stand-down or a company event, the aim is always the same – to make safety personal, relevant and memorable. Many organisations also invite me as their health and safety speaker to reinforce existing initiatives and encourage a stronger safety culture across the workforce.

Changing Behaviour Through Conversation

Creating safer workplaces starts with changing everyday behaviours. As a behavioural safety speaker, I encourage people to think beyond rules and procedures and consider the choices they make every day.

Drawing on genuine lived experience, I explore topics such as complacency, responsibility, communication and looking out for one another. The result isn’t simply a presentation people enjoy – it’s a conversation that continues long after the event has finished.

Supporting Workplace Mental Health

Looking after people’s mental health is just as important as protecting their physical safety. Open conversations help reduce stigma, encourage people to seek support earlier and create healthier working environments. As a workplace mental health speaker, I help organisations develop greater awareness of the challenges many people face, while offering practical ways to build more supportive workplace cultures.

Whether you’re planning a wellbeing event or looking for a mental health awareness speaker, every session is tailored to your organisation and your objectives. I also regularly support businesses as a workplace wellbeing speaker, helping leaders and employees understand how wellbeing, resilience and workplace performance are closely connected.

Tailored To Your Organisation

Every organisation is different, which is why every presentation is adapted to suit your audience, industry and objectives. Presentations are suitable for:

  • Construction companies
  • Civil engineering businesses
  • Manufacturing organisations
  • Infrastructure projects
  • Corporate organisations
  • Leadership events
  • Safety stand-down days
  • Wellbeing campaigns
  • Mental health awareness events
  • Industry conferences

Whether your organisation is based in Yorkshire or elsewhere in the UK, presentations can be delivered to small teams, leadership groups or company-wide audiences.

Why Organisations Choose Steven Kirby

When inviting a speaker into your organisation, you want someone who connects with people – not just someone who delivers a presentation. My approach is built on honesty, practical learning and real experience.

Clients regularly describe my style as relatable because the lessons I share come from genuine lived experience, not theory. That authenticity helps people engage with the message, making it easier to start meaningful conversations around safety, wellbeing and personal responsibility. As a reliable, experienced and professional speaker, my goal is to leave every audience with practical ideas they can take back into their workplace.

Every talk is tailored to suit your organisation, but topics commonly include: Workplace safety culture, Behavioural safety, Mental health in the workplace, Workplace wellbeing, Leadership and responsibility, Building resilience, Learning from workplace incidents, Mental health awareness, Personal responsibility and Returning to work after trauma

Testimonials & Recomendations.

Steven was very engaging and the operatives on site were fully engrossed with his talk. Talking openly about his own struggles with his mental health really resonated with the teams with some of them making contact and thanking Steven for helping them open up about their own issues. We are now in a position to help those individuals seek the attention they require which is great.
Steven is passionate about his work and this comes across in his talk which is open and honest.

Highly recommend Steve and his story to any organisation that is looking to promote behavioural safety and are looking to positively change some of the mindsets of people that may use the term “it’ll be alright’ too often whilst working around significant hazards. A gripping session and well worth the time that we took out of the working day to receive Steve’s story.
A pleasure to meet and work with Steve who is so relatable to the teams in our industry.

I would highly recommend Steven as a mental health and well-being speaker. He shares a traumatic but interesting story that engages the workforce. He shares the lessons learnt and control measures that could have prevented his accident which will help stop an accident of this type happening again. We looking forward to welcoming Steven back to support us on our health and safety culture module at site level.

We had Steve attend our annual ‘Back To Work’ presentations where we listened to him talk to us about his workplace accident, the impact it had on him and those close to him, and the valuable work he does to help others.
This was one of the best, most relatable, and relevant speeches I’ve ever heard during my time working in HSE and I couldn’t recommend him highly enough.
The feedback from our workforce, both blue and white collar, and from our client has been brilliant. All found Steve very honest, personable, and relatable. They felt like it was a work colleague talking to them, this is not something that is easy to do.
Many thanks, Steve and we look forward to working with you again in the future
10/10 from us.
